We are living in a culture of disconnection. Never has communication been easier or more fraught with anxiety. Information gushes over us, bringing new terrors every day. Mainstream culture becomes a retreat from the real, keeping us safe in seclusions of fantasy and illusions of familiarity. Making connections – between people, issues and ideas – is more important than ever. In my political activism and professional work I try to make these connections; between creative and political work, between personal and social change, between my privilege and the struggle for justice, between men’s violence at home and the violence of the State, between HIV epidemics and the aid, trade and debt policies of rich countries, and between changing our own practices of power as we challenge institutions of power.

This is a place for me to share my work and, in time, I hope it can become a forum where others can share the critical connections that they are making.
